Cape Ortegal Complex

Ferrolterra e Eume » Cariño

The territory around the Cape Ortegal Complex is integrated into a project to be considered 'Xeoparque Mundial Unesco'. We are dealing with an area with unique characteristics where the different geological formations present in the territory are part of one of the most complete allochthonous terrains of the Varisco Orogen in Europe.

Located in a unique setting, we also find the highest cliffs in continental Europe, 613 meters above sea level.

The visit to this singular rocky massif located in the Serra da Capelada, offers the opportunity to contemplate outcrops formed by ultrabasic rocks, serpentinites, eclogites, banded gneiss, peridotites, chalcedony ... etc. They are considered the oldest of the Peninsula and the fourth of the planet, formed 1,160 million years ago.
