This medieval fortress, located next to the road from A Coruña to Fisterra, has irregular polygonal shape with four towers oriented to the four winds.

The tower to the east, has a small access door at the courtyard level that goes down to the basement of the tower; it's the largest one and  it retains the oldest stone. The highest tower is the south one, the main one, or the Homage Tower, that dominates the access to the castle. Facing the courtyard is an L-shaped building, which supports the walls and north and east towers .

The last interventions, being the fortress property of the Deputación of A Coruña, were projected and directed by the architect Luis Gorozarri del Valle .

The first weekend of July the Asalto al Castelo is celebrated in this place, a festival where the Revoltas Irmandiñas are remembered.
